Key Updates for Investors
1. New Investment Categories & Minimum Amounts
New Zealand is introducing two investment categories:
Growth Category: Minimum NZD $5 million
Balanced Category: Minimum NZD $10 million
Additional investments of NZD $11M - $13M allow for a reduction in required time spent in New Zealand.
2. Expanded Investment Options
Growth Category: Invest in managed funds or direct investments in businesses.
Balanced Category: In addition to Growth Category investments, you can also invest in:
Listed equities
Philanthropy (donations to approved charities)
Property development (new residential, commercial, and industrial projects)
Bonds
3. Reduced Time in New Zealand
The new rules offer flexibility on how long you need to spend in New Zealand during your investment period:
Growth Category: 21 days over 36 months
Balanced Category: 105 days over 60 months
If you invest more than NZD $10 million, you can reduce the required time by up to 42 days.
4. Faster Investment Process
Investors must transfer and commit their funds within 6 months of receiving approval in principle.
A 6-month extension is available in certain cases.
5. No More English Language Requirement!
Unlike before, you do not need to meet English language requirements to qualify for this visa.
